Virginia is run by fucking morons
http://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/news/releases-b/030211vagrownapp.shtml :
“The Virginia Grown mobile application is a first-of-its-kind,” said Matthew J. Lohr, VDACS Commissioner. “We are not aware of any other state that offers a similar application to locate farm-fresh products on a consumer’s telephone.” The Virginia Grown app allows Virginia agricultural producers to communicate directly with end-users, allowing them to share their specific messages, product profiles and services with the public.
Well that's nifty..wait, what's this I skipped over?
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) today announced the availability of a free Virginia Grown app for Windows Phone 7.

How backwards is this state going to get?

This year it was decided by Richmond to get rid of the free iFile program for electronic filing of state taxes (which worked flawlessly even on my Linux/Firefox box since I choose not to pay the MS or Apple taxes) for residents with GI >$50k/year to 'save'[0] a whopping $50k/year[1], and now they've, arguably, wasted time developing a taxpayer-funded application that is only accessible to, what, a single digit percentage of the population?

Real effective use of taxpayer money there, dumbass. Here's a tip - how about you reign in your attack dog Cuccinelli and redirect the money he's wasting in his ideologically driven attacks against climate research, health care reform, and women's rights to continue what was widely regarded as a successful program?

[0] Processing iFile returns reportedly cost ~$0.17/per return. Processing paper returns reportedly costs the state >$1/return, and their savings presumes 100% of the people no longer able to iFile will use some other electronic mechanism. Nope. It's back to paper for me.

[1] Which is probably less than Intuit's campaign contributions to McDonnell but they're certainly going to reap a huge profit for their quid pro quo investment.

Dare we hope?

Could we be so lucky that Breitbart will pull a Quaid and flee to a foreign country? He's getting that same look of an impending psychotic break...

Because I've had to explain it twice inside of 5 minutes

Sister Sarah Steps in it Again
Sarah Palin addressed 'the Nation' today, [washingtonpost.com video], nominally to speak about the tragedy of the Arizona shooting. During the video she made the statement:
"Journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hated and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible."
Either Palin is staying true-to-form in remaining willfully ignorant of historical context, or the words "blood libel" were carefully chosen.

For reference, quote from the opening Wikipedia page on "blood libel":
Blood libel (also blood accusation) refers to a false accusation or claim that religious minorities, in European contexts almost always Jews, murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays. Historically, these claims have–alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration–been a major theme in European persecution of Jews.

The libels typically allege that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover. The accusations often assert that the blood of Christian children is especially coveted, and historically blood libel claims have often been made to account for otherwise unexplained deaths of children.
That's some dark shit right there.

Is it reasonably possible, at this stage of development of her public persona and after all the verbal gaffes she is guilty of, that the thought never crossed her mind that maybe, just maybe, the reason some conveniently evocative, argument framing catch-phrase stuck in her head is because the concepts and context behind it are so vile as to preclude it's use in anything purporting to be civil dialog?

Reprehensible is an accurate description, but not just of the behavior of journalists and pundits implied by Palin. If you are in possession of a bully pulpit and make use of it on a regular basis you are 100% responsible for the words you so carefully craft and the repercussions stemming from your presentation of same.

Huh, a trifecta
That's three Sears shopping trips now with a positive experience. The locked cabinets of sockets, extensions, and other fiddly hardware bits were unlocked so no need to find someone with the key, and even with just one person in front of me at a register another random employee wandering the floor zipped in, checked me out, then dashed off to do other things. Took far longer to actually find the 1/2" drive 17mm 6pt socket and shorty drive extension I needed than to pay and leave.

How do you like my Glenn Beck impersonation?

A conservative Maryland physician elected to Congress on an
anti-Obamacare platform surprised fellow freshmen at a Monday
orientation session by demanding to know why his
government-subsidized health care plan takes a month to kick in.

Republican Andy Harris, an anesthesiologist who defeated
freshman Democrat Frank Kratovil on Maryland's Eastern Shore,
reacted incredulously when informed that federal law mandated
that his government-subsidized health care policy would take
effect on Feb. 1 - 28 days after his Jan. 3rd swearing-in.

"He stood up and asked the two ladies who were answering
questions why it had to take so long, what he would do without
28 days of health care,"

"Harris then asked if he could purchase insurance from the
government to cover the gap,..."

It should be very clear what's really going on here. The well known Democratic stronghold of Maryland has elected a secret socialist to office on a conservative ticket, cleverly deciding that hiding him in plain sight was the most effective tactic. Soon he's going to impose Sharia law onto the Eastern shore establishing a safe beachhead for the muslin invasion and eventual domination of America.

Zombie community organizers
There's a general narrative I'm seeing on various message boards today that ACORN is engaging in organized voter fraud. Yeah, that ACORN, the one who ceased operations in the 2nd quarter of this year. Bizarre.

Not a Sears fanboi...

Unfortunate phrasing OTD
From http://www.kansascity.com/2010/09/26/2252345/officials-say-levee-failing-near.html :
...he and his wife decided to leave their home with their 17-month-old daughter because they were concerned about being cut off from the outside world.
